Thirsty Students

Jasmine Stover (Founder) is a CNA (certified nursing assistant), Phlebotomist and a Pharmacy Assistant that had a vision to help youth!  Now at 26 years old and 7 years in the health field, Stover strives to fulfill her purpose of preparing youth for the professional world. Giving youth different opportunities she has established various activities that youth can enjoy and use to enhance their lives. She was born and raised in Winston Salem NC where she a graduate of Parkland High School. “Participating in extra curriculum activities truly made me who I am today!” Now working as a  song writer, personal CNA, summer camp dance instructor and singer she uses her childhood experience to grow her dream today!  From networking to experience, Jasmine created Thirsty Inc. with her childhood and life experiences in mind. She takes pride in thirst and is working to give youth a chance to do the same.

Project OSM (one saturday morning)

Thirsty Inc. has partnered with the Center for Smart Financial Choices on a project called ‘One Saturday Morning’ (OSM). Offering youth ages 12-18 four free unique workshops which appeal to varied interests, enhance skills, build confidence and expand creativity. Attendance at Project Monopoly is required of all youth. These projects include

• Project Monopoly

• Project M3 (Make Me Move)

• Project HMO (hear me out)

• Project Fashion

WHAT: Project 2 School 4 Kool also known as “2s4k” is a youth empowerment program created for scholars who may need individual help during school to stay focused, understanding concepts or completing class room assignments as well as help in any other areas that may need a little extra attention. Our volunteers are college students and there will be one volunteer assigned to each classroom that requests this service. The volunteer will assist students for the period they are assigned to and their task will be to help any student looks in distress or ask for assistance to understand concepts from the lesson plan and help the student complete classroom assignments or assist the teacher.   Project 2s4k is offered Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday, although we will take into consideration setting up times that work around different school schedules.

 

OBJECTIVES:

 

• Motivate and relate to high school students

• Help college students with volunteer hours, and experience in the education and    professional fields

• Decrease dropout rate

• Improve overall grade point averages and test scores

• Assist teachers during school hours

What makes it different: After school program that consist of educational games that allows students to build an app outline to teach the lessons they learned throughout the program. At the beginning the student creates a short story that is then broken down piece by piece by the tutor paired with him/her.

Objectives:

• Complete homework assignments

• Raise students grades by at least one letter grade

• Create a fun learning environment

• Aid students in fully understanding lessons and concepts

• Bring awareness to students of the different opportunities in the community

• Engage students in fun educational

What makes it different: Project Shadow me is an internship program in which high school students, ages 16-18, are able to experience occupations and gain knowledge in the professions one may find interest.   Each student completes 16 hours per quarter per Thirsty Calendar meaning students will continue their intern throughout the summer. During these hours students are expected to shadow their professional mentor and assist in task assigned to the professional. Overall each student learns good work ethics, communication skills and problem solving techniques that will conceive young adults in professional world that they are preparing for.
